Alban Grosdidier
'Drowning'
Alban Grosdidier is a 22 year old artist from France. He studied at the ESAG Penninghen in Paris, and was still studying when his work was exhibited. He is well known for his ‘drowning’ project exhibited in Paris in 2012. Grosdidier talked about his drowning project and said, ‘Drowning is a project that talks about the feeling of submersion that one can have by living in a big city.’ He was focusing on the idea of the stress and chaos of city life, and the submerged feeling of living in a city, based on the French expression “having your head underwater”. His series was first presented along the Seine River in Paris, forcing pedestrians to stop for a second and ‘ask themselves “why?”’ (shown on the top right) The second part of his project was exhibited along the canal Saint Martin. Torrential rain distorted the images, the torn parts of the photograph were scattered around the area making the exhibition more interactive. Grosdidier said that he planned to exhibit these photographs on a rainy day so that the rain could 'physically imprint its effects on the photographs' (shown bottom right) I really liked the 'drowning' project as i found it very interesting the way Grosdidier decided to portray this claustrophobic feel with the use of water, submerging the people in his images. |

I Decided to re make Alban Grosdidiers photographs from his drowning project, by taking pictures of people submerged in water. However, i decided to emphasize the feeling of being submerged and the claustrophobic feel by using the persons hair, and more movement in the water.
